Today, I am very happy to introduce a fabulous painter, Jarmo Karhonen, from Turku, Finland. I discovered his work on facebook and was immediately entranced with the beauty of his work. Below you will see a few examples. Nudes painted simply, elegantly and abstractly. Here follows is my brief interview with Jarmo. Enjoy!
Q. Jarmo, why do you paint the nude?
A. A beautiful, nude female body is the greatest and the most enchanting piece of art God has created. Both from the outside and the inside. I love all about it!
By painting a beautiful female body I get the feeling of loving. I know, that I am at my best in that, so why not doing it as my job! :)
Q. 2. Who have been your influences and who do you admire?
A. I think simply the best female nude models of the world are the ones. Also the best nude photographers.
Q. 3. How much of each work is preconceived and how much of that changes once the creative process has begun?
A. I always use a model or a picture of a model, so the best features of her and the way she poses causes the effect that sets me on fire, gives a spark to start working.
I always follow my instincts! Sometimes I choose charcoal on paper, watercolor on paper, acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas and so on. Following my instincts I sometimes end up doing a spontaneous quick work or sometimes a well-groomed work.
I try to keep a limited color palette and also I try to keep my expression very simple. I think less is more!
Q. 4. What do you want to achieve with your work?
A. The feeling and the expression of the feeling are the most important things. I try to create a catharsis.
When I work on the area of subconscious, the conscious thinking is on a way. The best thing is to do what FEELS right and to count on that.
Q. 5. Where do you see your work in 5 or 10 years?
A. As I see it, all depends on realizing, that my art is acceptable to myself. I have been working on that and i am achieving that level. That is really all that counts. All what comes after that is extra.
I believe now my work are skilled enough to reach quite a high esteem. :)
Lastly, if there is anything you would like to share with your fans, they may not know about you, something personal and are there any projects or ideas that you are working on you would like to promote.
Jarmo, " My thinking of the world is more and more spiritual now. I see clearly what is important in life. The state of being, to just be, is more important than to make things, to accomplish.
I have started to realize the power of love! Love is all that really matters, because love is all there is!
I want to spread love from now on, now that I have given myself a permission to love myself."
